Judicial Stress and Judicial Bullying

  • The Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG

Abstract

This paper is based on a talk given at the Melbourne Wellness Conference, 21st February 2013. It was first published in the Australian Law Journal (2013) 87, 516-527 and is reproduced with permissions. A national forum on wellness in Australian legal practice is timely. The growing attention to wellness in this context is welcome. Recent editions of professional journals in Australia and overseas bear witness to the increasing attention to, and concern about, stress, depression and pressure amongst law students and legal practitioners. The new-found attention is commendable. It was not always so.
